Madras Rubber Factory, therefore, MRF was established in 1946 at Tiruvottiyur, Madras (now Chennai) by the founder K. M. Mammen Mappillai. The company was started as a toy balloon manufacturing entity. By 1949, the company was involved in making latex cast toys, latex gloves, and contraceptive products and thereby established its first office at 334, Thambu Chetty Street, Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu, India.
In 1952, the company entered into tread rubber manufacturing which put the company on the way to a bigger corporation. Accordingly, in November 1960 the company Madras Rubber Factory Limited therefore MRF was incorporated as a private company. At the same time, MRF ventured into the manufacture of automobile tires in partnership with Mansfield Tire & Rubber Company based in Ohio, United States.
The joint venture company later went public on 1 April 1961 and accordingly in 1964 it established an office in Beirut, Lebanon to develop the export market. Later within the period MRF’s official logo of the muscleman was born and by 1967, MRF Tyres became the first Indian company to export automobile tires to the American markets.
Afterward, the company went with technical collaborations with many world-renowned corporations and developed its manufacturing capabilities. Thus it started to manufacture world-class and advanced featured automobile tire and rubber products. Accordingly, the company also expands its business all over the world.
