Motorcycle Saddle Width – An Important Spec To Consider

Last updated on 25-Nov-2023 , By Saleh

Even many motorcycle riders don’t know what kind of motorcycle seat is compatible with his/her motorcycle riding style and best matches with his/her body physic. Though many riders consider the saddle height while selecting a specific model of motorcycle to purchase but surely they are not frequently in considering the saddle width and make a purchase that and then struggle a lot. Hence focusing on the issue here I am Saleh illuminating on motorcycle saddle width – an important spec to consider.

Motorcycle saddle width – An important spec to consider

Commonly we know that a motorcycle saddle height is a very important measure that is directly related to a motorcycle rider's capability to tackle a specific model motorcycle. When the saddle height of a motorcycle perfectly matches a motorcycle rider, then it becomes far easy to ride, control, and handle a motorcycle to him even in the worst unusual conditions.  But when the saddle height is unmatched by someone's physic then various types of uncomfortable situation arises and are experienced by a rider.

In case of higher saddle height, a rider may badly struggle for balance to touch the ground with his/her toe in situations of tight traffic conditions, on the off-roads, and even in idle conditions. Simultaneously, when the saddle goes much lower than a rider's height the rider may face muscle cramps, pain, fatigue, and compromised comfort due to unusual bent in the hip, knee, and toe, therefore, in the lower body parts. Thus inappropriate saddle height is really a matter to be seriously considered.

In the same way, a motorcycle saddle width is also an important measure that should be seriously considered to match the rider's physic. Whereas some riders' inseam is wider and there is no matter if the saddle is wider profiled he/she can tackle and stay comfortable. But a narrower seat is literally painful for such a rider on long rides and even in short-distance commuting.

On the other side, some riders’ inseam is quite narrower and they may struggle even with standard seat width. Hence they often need a narrower profile seat to touch the ground by foot easily and seat comfortably without getting pain inside the thigh. Otherwise, they surely struggle to tackle the motorcycle in uneven conditions and also feel very uncomfortable on long rides.

Hence in such complex situations what a rider can do? The solution is very simple. A rider should choose his/her motorcycle according to his/her body profile and comfort requirements and of course match the saddle width accordingly. Generally, narrow front curvy seats best match most types of riders where a rider can avail maximum ground contact while seating in the curvy lower front and stay comfortable seating wider back while riding for long.

Further, those who already have an unmatched width of seating arrangements in his/her motorcycle can go for aftermarket customizations and modifications. Therefore, replacing it with desired profile saddle or re-cushioning and reshaping the saddle also is an easy solution now a day’s available in markets anyone can go for those, that's it.
