Last updated on 15-Mar-2026 , By Badhon Roy

The globally renowned riding gear brand Alpinestars has unveiled a new product in the motorcycle safety gear segment. After years of research and development, the concept of integrating airbags and AI-based crash detection into riding gear has finally reached the commercial market.

Alpinestars has introduced the Tech-Air 5 Plasma airbag vest, featuring an ultra-slim design and AI-powered crash detection technology. After making its first appearance in the United States earlier this year, the product has now been released for sale across Europe and other international markets.

Alpinestars Smart Airbag Vest Launched

The Tech-Air 5 Plasma is the latest addition to Alpinestars’ existing airbag system lineup. These systems are designed for a wide range of riding conditions including street riding, daily commuting, track riding, off-road, and motocross. The new vest can be used by both riders and passengers. According to Alpinestars, the goal behind developing this vest was to ensure high levels of safety while maintaining comfort and freedom of movement for the rider.

The vest is also notably lightweight. The Tech-Air 5 Plasma weighs just 1.53 kg, which is around 25 percent lighter than its predecessor. As a result, it is currently the lightest airbag vest system produced by Alpinestars. Thanks to its minimal design, the vest can be worn discreetly under most riding jackets without restricting the rider’s movement.

One of the key advantages of the vest is the ability to replace the gas inflator by the user. As long as the airbag unit itself remains undamaged, riders can replace the gas inflator up to six times on their own. In countries where the product is officially available, this means the system does not need to be sent to a service center after every deployment, saving both time and maintenance costs.

The Tech-Air 5 Plasma also features advanced AI-based crash detection technology. It offers three riding modes: off-road, street, and race/track mode. Riders can easily switch between these modes using a small LED display button on the vest. The button is designed to be usable even while wearing gloves, allowing riders to change settings quickly without relying on a smartphone app.

Such advanced riding gear technology is expected to play a significant role in reducing injuries and protecting riders during accidents. It now remains to be seen when this vest will arrive in the Bangladeshi market and how it will be priced.
