HID headlights in motorcycles are exclusive and much attractive features that literally benefit a lot, especially riding at night. Though HID headlights are not commonly available in stock condition in beginner-class motorcycles we often love to have upgrades our motorcycles' stock headlights with aftermarket HID lights. Sequentially here we come with the advantages and disadvantages of HID headlights in motorcycles. So let’s have a brief on HID lights for motorcycles below.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of HID Headlights In Motorcycles

HID lights as OEM headlights in motorcycles provided by the manufacturers are not a common feature in Bangladesh. It’s because most commonly we ride entry-level and mostly low-featured motorcycles in this country. Further, due to engine capacity limitations and other bureaucratic issues bigger size motorcycles or high-profile motorcycles are not permitted to use and are available in Bangladesh.

So in such a situation, only a very limited range of motorcycles come here with exclusive features in this market, and the price range is much higher for those which only rich people can afford. So rests of the common people stay happy with low-profile motorcycles and comparatively low-profile headlamp system in their motorcycles or some go for the upgrade of the stock light with HID headlamp setups.

Whatsoever, if you are willing to go for HID headlamp featured motorcycles or wish to upgrade your stock light to HID lights and you’re in confusion then here we are describing both the advantages and disadvantages of HID headlights in motorcycles. Thus be sure about the HIDs that are beneficial for you or not.

Advantages Of HID Headlights In Motorcycles

  • HID lights provide better illumination, perform efficiently, and produce more light than conventional halogen lights. Consequently, it’s beneficial to have HID headlamp system in motorcycles.
  • HID lights are much more energy efficient and produce more light per unit of electricity consumption. Thus it is also a convenient choice to upgrade motorcycle stock headlights with HID lights.
  • HID lights have a longer span of service life than conventional filament bulbs or halogen bulbs. Further, HID bulbs are better built that are better shockproof which is good for motorcycles.
  • HID light beams provide maximum illumination coverage on the road and those are better directional which benefits much in the case of motorcycle headlights.
  • Most attractively, HID lights are available in a versatile range of feature options like luminous power, color temperature grade, and wattage. Hence HID lights can be a better option to upgrade a motorcycle headlamp system.

Disadvantages Of HID Headlights In Motorcycles

  • If we consider the disadvantages of HID lights in motorcycle headlamp systems then the complexity of installation, replacement, or a certain range of repair work comes first. HID lights have a ballast and cooling system hence those need dedicated housing inside the headlamp assembly and that’s the complexity.
  • HID lights are way power-consuming at the time of initial start and produce much heat thus they need a powerful electricity supply, therefore, powerful batteries, and need proper heat suppression facility inside the headlamp housing.
  • HID lights need an initial startup time to heat up and then they provide the full range of illumination after reaching in certain operating temperature. Thus HIDs lack instant startup.
  • HID lights are much bright and the light color is whitish, hence they are good performers in clearer weather conditions but not much good in dealing with uneven weather conditions like fog, rain, and dust.

So, guys, these are the most common advancement and issues related to HID lights. Hence obviously HIDs are the better option for motorcycle headlights but side by side they also have some demerits which should take care of in case of upgrade or choosing a new motorcycle in case of buy, thanks.
