Motorcycle Rearview Mirror Position, Placement, And Its Importance

Last updated on 19-Jun-2023 , By Saleh

Motorcycle rearview motors are one of the most important controlling elements of a motorcycle that directly help a motorcycle rider to keep his/her eyes on the entire road traffic and surroundings especially the rear part of the rider. Very often somehow due to ignorance, we do mistakes to make proper positioning and placement of the motorcycle rearview mirrors and ignore the importance of that. Therefore here I am Saleh illuminating on motorcycle rearview mirror position, placement, and its importance.

Motorcycle Rearview Mirror Position, Placement, And Its Importance

You know a motorcycle is quite a risky vehicle unlike any other three, four, or six-wheeler vehicle and it needs to balance in any conditions only on two wheels. Further being a small vehicle, a motorcycle rider needs to be always cautious on the roads to stay safe and ride safely. Hence, a rider must put his/her eyes concentrated on the front to stay safer on the road, and rider accordingly a rider must have to be known about the traffic conditions behind him.

Thus, a motorcycle rider somewhat needs two more eyes to see behind and here motorcycle rearview mirror does its job. A pair of perfectly set, positioned, and aligned rearview mirrors allow the rider to see the rear scenario behind him and thus the rider can ride accordingly and stay safe. Therefore, here is my advice for the motorcycle rearview mirror position, and placement, and also describing its importance.

Position the mirrors within the handlebar length

Positioning the motorcycle rearview mirrors within the motorcycle handlebar length is very important and that is the first condition of perfect placement for the mirrors. Perhaps some of the cruiser and scrambler types of motorcycles set the mirrors outside of the handlebar edge or closer to the middle but it’s not standard and should be avoided as an exception.

Keeping the rearview mirrors on the handlebar length the mirrors stay safe and nothing uneven hits the mirrors in situations of a crash or falling down the possibilities remain that the mirrors may stay unbroken. Further, it shows the rider's actual assumption of the width of his/her motorcycle which actually needed in time of overtaking, running through, and also dealing with tight traffic conditions.

Positioning the mirrors in completely upright mode

While positioning the rearview mirrors always should position in upright mode and most manufacturers do the same in most of category and types of motorcycles. It literally helps a lot to peep through the mirror very easily. It also allows very easy adjustment to most types of riders and he/she can get maximum rearview coverage through the mirrors.

Place the rearview mirrors near shoulder height

Motorcycle rearview mirrors should be placed at a height near a rider's shoulder height. Most motorcycle manufacturers also try to follow this positioning as standard though some of the manufacturers do differently in different categories of motorcycles to feature different styling. But to get the maximum benefit and easy & instant access to the mirrors a rider always should position the mirrors near his/her shoulder height.

Position the mirrors to cover at least 2/3 of the rearview

Most of the common riders do the mistake of positioning the motorcycle rearview mirrors only to see the nearest vehicles at the rear. But two rearview mirrors are featured in every motorcycle actually to get the entire view behind the rider. It literally helps a rider to get quite a 360-degree view around him. Hence a rider should very carefully determine his/her motorcycle mirror position to get coverage of at least 2/3 of the entire rear view through a single mirror.

Position to cover 100% of rearview by both mirrors

When you have positioned the motorcycle mirrors to get at least 2/3 of the entire rear view then it needs to position them again to get 100% of the rearview by both mirrors. Accordingly, to set up the mirror position sit on the motorcycle and adjust the mirrors by twisting them on the mirror arms and do adjust them at the angle so that you can see the entire rear part of you through two mirrors. Believe me, it will help you a lot and as result, you will feel that you have two more eyes at your rear. Cheers!
