Honda Reveals New V3 E-Compressor Engine Promising 1200cc Performance in 900cc Engine

One of the world's giant motorcycle manufacturers, Honda, is about to introduce a new era with their new innovation in motorcycle technology. Honda has recently revealed more details about their new V3 E-Compressor engine, which could change the concept of performance motorcycles in the future. It is said that it is possible to get the performance of a 1200cc engine from this new 900cc engine proposed by Honda; so, let's know more about the technology.

Honda Reveals New V3 E-Compressor Engine - Promises 1200cc Performance in 900cc Engine

Since motorcycle manufacturer Honda first showed a glimpse of their new technology at last year's EICMA motorcycle exhibition, it has created a huge noise among the motorcycle enthusiasts different corner of the world. Because, Honda has started working on a technology that promises to give the performance of a large displacement engine in a relatively small engine.

Honda's new engine is a 75-degree liquid-cooled V3 (three-cylinder) unit, where usually we see Inline-Four, Parallel-Twin, Inline-Triple or V2 and V4 engines in modern performance motorcycles. Meanwhile, the V3 configuration is very rare these days, but according to Honda, this design will help keep the engine more compact and narrow, making it easier to control the weight and size of the motorcycle.

Honda's New E-Compressor System

The biggest attraction of this new V3 engine from Honda is the world's first motorcycle useable electronically controlled compressor, therefore E-Compressor technology. We know, conventional turbochargers work with the help of exhaust gases, and ordinary superchargers take power directly from the engine's crankshaft. But Honda's E-Compressor is driven by a separate electric motor, and that is not dependent on engine RPM or exhaust gases and can supply additional air to the engine at any moment as needed.

As a result, it is possible to get instant and strong torque from this engine from very low RPM. Usually, to get maximum power in small or medium-sized engines, you need to go to higher RPM. But due to the use of Honda's new E-Compressor, it will be possible to get fast acceleration and strong pull in the engine from low RPM. Therefore, it will give the rider an additional advantage in all cases, whether in city traffic, mountain roads, or overtaking on the highways.

Honda's New Engine Promises 1200cc Performance In 900cc

Honda has already unveiled its V3R 900 E-Compressor Prototype at the EICMA exhibition. According to Honda's claim, the use of this new E-Compressor can provide similar performance to a 900cc class engine that usually found from a 1200cc class engine. That is, the power and torque of a large engine will be available in a smaller engine and also the advantages of a small engine in terms of weight, size and fuel consumption will also be maintained.

This can be a vital opportunity for the motorcycle industry in the current era of strict emission regulations and fuel efficiency requirements. Another notable thing is that iconic Honda engineers have designed this engine and the E-Compressor system in such a way that may not require a large intercooler like a conventional turbocharged engine. As a result, it will be possible to keep the entire powertrain more compact and avail an additional freedom in the design variations in new motorcycles.

However, Honda motorcycle has not revealed the specific horsepower, torque or details of this engine's use in production models yet, but the company has confirmed that the technology is not just a concept; rather, it is being developed for future production motorcycles.

So all in all, Honda's V3 E-Compressor project could start a new chapter in motorcycle technology. If this technology is able to deliver the expected results in real, then in the future we may see motorcycles that are capable to delivery powerful performance like larger displacement bikes even though using comparatively a smaller engine. So, let’s hope for the best from Honda.
