PHP Merkaba 150
Market status: Available in Bangladesh
The PHP Merkaba 150 is a cruiser. And in the modern Bangladesh, cruisers are a big thing. We have seen a high rise of cruisers in Bangladesh over the years. The cruiser culture mainly came from the American biker gangs. This culture, however developed in to a very healthy travelling culture in Bangladesh. As most people would prefer cruisers over regular motorcycles on the highways.
PHP is one of the largest conglomerates of Bangladesh. They have over 30 companies under their wings. PHP Automobiles Ltd. is also the country’s first automobile assembling organization. PHP is a Bangladeshi brand that produces motorcycles of their own, which include the chassis being made here in Bangladesh.
The PHP Merkaba 150 is one of the few factory ready Cruiser in Bangladesh. The bike has a single-seat, with extended handlebars. This makes the bike look very much like a custom Cruiser. While every customized Cruiser is very unstable and mostly unsafe to use, the PHP Merkaba 150 is quite stable and safe. The slanted forks at the front also make the bike quite comfortable to cruise with.
The light setup of the PHP Merkaba 150 is quite good compared to other cruisers in Bangladesh. The headlight of the bike is a Halogen unit with a huge reflector. The taillight and the indicators of the bike are LED units. The headlight will be enough for the highway. The taillight and the indicators will also be enough to be noticed from a distance.
The PHP Merkaba 150 instrument cluster is quite minimalistic, just like a Cruiser should have. The instrument cluster only has a speedometer, fuel gauge, odometer, trip meter, and other necessary indicators. The minimalistic instrument cluster is there because bikers who use Cruisers don’t care about other functions of the instrument cluster, as they are too much into enjoying the ride. The instrument cluster is completely analog, which gives a very retro feel.
The PHP Merkaba 150 is available in two colors. They are:
Both the colors come with similar decals and similar designs.
As the PHP Merkaba 150 is a cruiser, it has a low saddle-height of 750mm as all Cruisers should have. Regardless of the low seat height, the bike has a high ground clearance of 190mm. At this ground clearance, the bike may have almost no difficulty getting over most speed bumps of Bangladesh. The bike also has a fuel tank of 14liters. The fuel capacity ensures that the biker won’t have to worry about fuel on long rides.
The length, width, and height of the PHP Merkaba 150 are not mentioned. But the dry weight of the bike is about 115kg. The weight of the bike is quite less, which is surprising for a cruiser. The bike also has a wheelbase of about 1300mm, which is quite short compared to most cruisers and bikes, and it might bring a question stability in while leaning.
Engine and Transmission:
The PHP Merkaba 150 comes with a single-cylinder, 4-stroke, 2-valve, and 149.2cc engine. The engine is carbureted and air-cooled. The engine pumps out around 8.5kW of power at 8500rpm and 11Nm of torque at 7500rpm. Although the bike is carbureted, the engine is quite smooth. It is expected to have an economy of around 30-35kmpl combined, but the company is claiming it to have a fuel economy of about 55kmpl.
The PHP Merkaba 150 has a wet multi-plate clutch system. It has a 5-speed gearbox, which is suitable for cruising. The bike is expected to have a top speed of around 90kmph, which will be more than enough for cruising through the highways of Bangladesh.
Brakes, Suspensions, and Wheels:
The PHP Merkaba 150 has a single-disc brake setup. The front brake has a disc setup, which allows the bike to brake smoothly. The front brake is expected to perform quite well, as the disc has a large radius. The rear brake is not expected to perform very well, as it has a drum. The overall brake setup of the bike is not very satisfactory.
The front of the PHP Merkaba 150 has telescopic forks as the suspension and the rear is 5-step adjustable shock absorber, which is a first for Bangladesh. The front suspension is expected to respond well as most telescopic suspensions do. The suspension setup of the bike allows it to be great at touring and long rides. This suspension is not at all for bumpy or off-roads.
The PHP Merkaba 150 has alloy wheels. The front and the rear wheels have 2.75-18 and 3.00-18 section tires respectively. The thick rear tires will compensate for the hard-tail. If you are to face any bumpy roads, letting a little pressure go would be great.
Pros and Cons:
There are quite a few pros and cons of the PHP Merkaba 150. They are mentioned below:

No rear suspension.
The PHP Merkaba 150 is a bike for touring lovers. The bike is for the tourers who want to tour in style. This bike would be great for the smooth roads and the long straights which will allow its riders to have comfortable long rides.
