KTM Duke 125 European Edition
There have been many sportbikes, naked bikes, adventure bikes, and commuting bikes over the years, but one particular series of bikes became famous for being one of the best stunt bike series. That series is the KTM Duke series. The KTM Duke series of the bike starts from a mere 125cc and ends at a whopping 1290cc. Due to cubic capacity restrictions, the only bike that we Bangladeshis can acquire is the KTM Duke 125 (European).
KTM, an Austrian motorcycle company that is mostly famous for its aggressive-looking sport motorcycles. KTM bikes reach Bangladesh through local importers and two versions of the KTM Duke 125 is readily available in Bangladesh, Indian, and Europe. Today we will explore the European version of the KTM Duke 125 (European).
The KTM Duke 125 (European) is the better looking of the two versions of the bike. The bike comes with a very aggressive headlight set up. The headlight is fully LED. The light is enough to travel around at night. All the other lights are LED as well. The indicators are minimalistic and thin.
The KTM Duke 125 (European) has a complete TFT display for the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster shows everything a rider needs daily and more. The basics of the instrument cluster are the speed, distance, time, range, and fuel consumption of the bike. However, if you pry a bit more, you find a whole lot of settings to play around with, such as mode, settings, Bluetooth, and a lot more. The control of the TFT is on the left side of the handlebar so that the rider doesn’t have to move their hand from the throttle.
The KTM Duke 125 (European) comes in two colors. They are:
- Orange (Combined with black and white).
- White (Combined with black and orange).
The decals of the bike are very aggressive and good looking. The bike is a complete head-turner.
The KTM Duke 125 (European) comes with a regular exhaust setup, unlike the Indian version, which comes with an underbelly exhaust. This ensures that the bike doesn’t turn off when passing through floods during the rainy season.
The KTM Duke 125 (European) is a fairly tall bike, with a seat height of 830mm. The bike is mostly suited for riders more than 5’9”. The bike also has a longer rear section, with a stretched-out seat, unlike the Indian version. The bike also has a larger tank than the Indian version, 13.4-liters. The tank is more than enough for long rides out of town.
The length, width, height, and weight of the KTM Duke 125 (European) are 1993mm, 789mm, 1083mm, and 139kg. The bike is not the heaviest of them all but is quite heavier than regular 125cc bikes. The bike also has a very average wheelbase of 1366mm, which is enough for a bike of this power to hit the corners with maximum stability.
Engine and Transmission:
The KTM Duke 125 (European) comes with a 4-stroke, 4 valves, single-cylinder, and 125cc engine. The engine is liquid-cooled and fuel-injected, which are huge plus points for the bike. The engine pumps out a staggering 15BHP of power at 9250rpm and 12Nm torque at 8000rpm. While the power is extremely high, the torque figure does get a blow due to the engine size. The bike is expected to have a mileage of around 41kmpl (Company claim) on average. The engine also comes with a Bosch EMS (Engine management system).
The KTM Duke 125 (European) has a basic wet multi-plate clutch system. However, the bike does not get a slipper clutch like the Yamaha R15. The KTM Duke 125 (European) has a 6-speed gearbox, and the bike has an approximate top speed of about 120kmph.
Brakes, Suspensions, and Wheel:
The KTM Duke 125 (European) has Bosch powered dual-channel ABS, which means the front and the rear both get ABS. The bike also has four-piston radial fixed caliper brakes set up at the front. This means emergency braking will be faster and will be more efficient. The brakes make the bike safer and more reliable. The rear ABS is a huge plus point for this bike as well, as this ensures that the bike will not skid at emergency braking situations.
The KTM Duke 125 (European) has upside-down WP Apex-43 telescopic forks as front suspension. The rear has a preload-adjustable WP mono-shock suspension. This means that the bike will be highly stable during rides, cornering, and you can also adjust the rear suspension to your liking and situation. Although the rear seat has been said to be fairly stiff, the rear suspension can cover up for that.
The KTM Duke 125 (European) gets alloy wheels. The front and rear wheels have 110/80 and 150/70 tires respectively. The stock Michelin rear tire of this bike is considered to be one of the fattest tires available in Bangladesh. The tire set up makes this bike one of the best bikes to hit the corners of Bandarban with maximum lean.
The KTM Duke 125 (European) was made for youngsters who have been riding for quite some time and want to get a bike that has lower cc but is very cut-throat aggressive. This bike induces confidence with its technologies. This bike has the power and torque figures for a young speed freak, yet is not as overwhelming when riding, due to its smooth riding. The KTM Duke 125 (European) is also for the people who want to spoil themselves with expensive and high-quality bikes.
Weirdly, the KTM Duke 125 (European) has only 2 competitors, but the competitors are strong enough to question the buyer’s decisions.
- KTM Duke 125 (Indian).
- Kawasaki Z125.
- Aprilia Tuono 150 (Upcoming).
The KTM Duke 125 (European) is an exceptional bike with exceptional design that has the capabilities to make anyone’s head turn. The bike may not be as fast as a 150cc bike naked sportbike, but it is still very strong. The KTM Duke 125 (European) is one of the best-naked sportbikes available in Bangladesh.
