Here Yamaha R15 V3 is designed with somewhat big bike look. Its appearance is quite like the newly released Yamaha YZF-R6. It comes with iconic dual head lamp with four pit LED head lamp assembly.  The front panel is wider with large wind screen where body panel is much bloated with huge wind tunnel. The rear part of the bike is also damn gorgeous with split seat, vented rear panel and with 140mm wider rear tire.

The wheel, brake and suspension system of the bikes here is quite same type. All the bikes here come with all alloy rim with tubeless type tire. Here Suzuki GSX-R150 front tire is quite narrower than the Yamaha R15 V3 & Honda CBR150R. In rear the R15 V3 tire is wider than the rest of two competitors. Hence considering tire R15 V3 got fatter tire then CBR150R and GSX-R150 got comparative narrower tire.

Coming to the braking system again Yamaha R15 V3 comes in first as its front brake disk is larger in diameter. And the rear brake disk also larger then the rest of the others. Here again Honda took place in second where GSX-R150 brakes are so light in design. The rear brake disk of GSX-R150 is really quite small in diameter and that lacks confidence for sure. But we can assure as all the bikes here comes with superior braking system but their capability is different for sure.

In terms of suspension system again Yamaha R15 V3 comes in front line. The R15 V3 comes with upside down telescopic shock absorbar and the rear one is monoshock with link type assembly. Here rest of the CBR150R and GSX-R150 also comes with same type of rear mono shock assembly. But their front telescopic shock absorber is not USD type. Here again we should mention as these bikes suspension system is significantly capable but in terms of confidence and updated feature R15 V3 comes in front and rest of two grabs the equal position.

Riding and controlling is the significant feature of a bike even that is aggressively designed for sports. Here in terms of riding posture and controlling all the three bikes have some advancement and also some weaknesses.

Till now the official distributor of Suzuki motorcycle in Bangladesh is not distributing this model under their shade. The reason is their business coordination is with Suzuki India not with Indonesia.

Yamaha YZF-R15 Ver 3.0 Overview

Here in counter the Yamaha YZF-R15 is the youngest bread of the legendary Yamaha YZF-R series. It first time released on the year 2008 and that was Yamaha YZF-R15 Version 1.0. On the year 2011 Yamaha again released the second generation of YZF-R15 that badged as Yamaha YZF-R15 Ver 2.0. After six years of ruling again Yamaha released the third generation of R15 in Indonesia that is Yamaha YZF-R15 Ver 3.0.

The all new Yamaha YZF-R15 V3 is a brand new machine which is widely different from the previous versions. It designed and featured completely differently and enhanced with more updated features. The new R15 V3 is also more powerful than the any other of previous versions. Currently R15 V3 also available in Bangladeshi motorcycle market through the individual importers. Coming to the comparison between Suzuki GSX-R150 vs Yamaha R15 V3 lets start from the exteriors. The exterior layout and design of the both bikes inspired directly from their tagged racing series. So both the bikes here followed the iconic racing style & design which gave the machines an identity of true street sports bike.

Here Suzuki GSX-R150 designed with a sharper theme and style which also carried from the MotoGP style of Suzuki. GSX-R150 designed specifically in concentration of assuring overall light weight design. So here all the part and body panels are designed very slick, slender and light.

It also has few more kilograms of weight than the GSX-R150. Moreover the saddle height is quite higher where the seat is also wider.

Hence along with aggressive racing riding style riding a R15 V3 in traffic is a painful job for lower height rider. But larger wheelbase with wider tires allows the bike much more stability on the street fighting and sharp cornering. Another more happy thing is the pillion seat in R15-V3 is much spacious than GSX-R150. So taking pillion regularly is not much hassle.

So after the specification table here we are in the technical discussion on Suzuki GSX-R150 vs Yamaha R15 V3. You know the GSX-R150 is precisely a 147.3cc bike where the R15 V3 engine capacity is 155.1cc. Here both the engine is high rev engine and maximum power squeezes out at higher RPM.

Here you can see both the engine compression ratio is quite same and power and torque output also quite same. But here both bikes have some different angle of advancement.

Top Five 150cc Premium Sports Bike 2017 – Performance Comparison

In this performance comparison segment here we considered Yamaha R15 Ver2.0 and Honda CBR150R Thai model as the standard. Here both the bikes are qualified with premium features and ruled our premium segment for quite a long time. And still they have significant position in the competition with other new coming 150cc premium sports bike.

The Leaders Performance

Clarifying the capability here Yamaha R15 Ver2.0 previously was the fastest bike in terms of solid acceleration. It allows superb control, cornering, braking therefore rock solid confident playing on solid asphalt. Literary it gives the taste of track racing.

But R15 Ver2.0 lack was short playing quite rigid suspension considering common and regular usage. And completely track oriented aggressive riding position is another issue where pillion seating is like hell.

On the other side Honda CBR150R Thai is the quite perfect combination of refined power and smooth riding character. This model also track designed but it has the capability to be used in daily common purposes. Therefore here the suspensions are awesome and riding position is more pleasant then the R15 Ver2.0.

This speed machine is famous for gaining top speed but truly it lacks for raw acceleration. Its acceleration is linier but shows its true character after reaching 5000RPM. Its braking capability is good enough. But it’s not so solid like R15 ver2.0 due to softer suspension and regular swing arm attachment of rear suspension.

Current Performer in the Battle

So after the ruling model of R15 Ver2.0 and CBR150R Thai here we already have two new models available in our market. And the Yamaha R15 Ver3.0 is very near to be available in our market.

So in such situation people are too much excited about the capability and performance of each machine. So sequentially Honda CBR150R Indo, Suzuki GSX-R150 and Yamaha R15 Ver3.0 will come here in our discussion of performance comparison.

Coming to Honda CBR150R Indo previously we have posted Yamaha R15 V2.0 vs Honda CBR150R 2016 Comparison. We have mentioned there the new CBR150R Indo 2016 is completely new machine than the Thailand version. That machine is better capable to deal with Yamaha R15 Ver2.0 in all aspect.

This CBR150R build with better combination of power, raw acceleration, braking, suspension therefore superb control, performance and comfort ensured. But again, here the Thai model of CBR150R is softer and smoother in operation then the Indo model. Again that machine still in advanced in terms of gaining top speed than Indo CBR150r or R15 Ver2.0.

So if you consider on road engine performance then GSX-R150 is a nice choice for you. But here the lacking is this bike designed for lighter weight. So here most of the body parts are very light in weight and design. Moreover seating position is very aggressive and completely track oriented. And it designed for single person use where pillion seat is only added to cover the design.

The Upcoming Warrior

Lastly, talking about the upcoming warrior of 150cc premium sports bike that is Yamaha R15 Ver3.0. The bike is very near to be available in our market. This motorcycle therefore Yamaha R15 ver3.0 comes with significant higher figure of power and torque rating.

In terms of revealed official specification this bike is more capable than the latest release of Suzuki GSX-R150. Moreover tolerable aggressive riding posture, solid delta box frame, invert front suspension may give R15 ver3.0 more advancement over the GSX-R150.

Not going in wide discussion but giving as the clue new R150 ver3.0 comes with quite solid square engine with notable compression ratio. And its delivery of maximum power and torque comes out in quite lower RPM than GSX-R150 does. So here the hard competition will take place after availability of Yamaha R15 ver3.0

Suzuki GSX-R150 & GSX-S150 Launched In Indonesia – Will It come In Bangladesh?

Suzuki GSX-R150 & GSX-S150 launched in Indonesia; both the bikes are stated to be pure competition of with HONDA & YAMAHA in the sports bike segments. Both the bikes are quiet similar in manners. GSX-R150 is the sports version while GSX-S150 is naked version. Question remains will it come in Bangladesh?

Suzuki in Bangladesh don’t have any sports bike in their line up to fight with the likes of Yamaha R15 v2 or Honda CBR150R, neither does in India, their best offering is Suzuki Gixxer SF Motogp Edition which is a full body kit bike with a 155cc air cooled engine, producing 14.6 BHP. Gixxer SF is carburetor tuned with 5 speed gearboxes & just months back had rear disc brake as offering.

Looking from the picture from Indonesia we can confirm that the bike have double LED headlight one above another near like Honda CB150R, fuel tank is inspired from Suzuki GSXR1000 while the naked version is from GSX-S1000. Both the bike gets split seats as common.

What we know so far that the bike will have a 148cc DOHC engine which will be water cooled, fuel injected and will have a 6 speed gearbox. During the launch Suzuki didn’t reveal the power figure but later in their Indonesian website they stated that the bikes engine will  give out  19.2 BHP & 14 NM Toque which will be more powerful then R15v2 & any CBR150R & probably the most powerful 150cc bike in the whole world currently!.

But what really amazes me is the weight of the bikes; the full faired bike will weigh just 126 kg! While the naked version will be one kg heavier. Laws of Physics states with that much power on that light chassis both the bikes will be rocket ship on the straight (remember from Yamaha FZ150i Test Ride Review). In an article it was also mention that Suzuki tested the bike up against two 150cc sports bike (probably it will be R15v2 & CBR150R 2016) and was 8 km/h faster in the drag race!

Among other key features stated during the launch that Suzuki GSX-R150 will get key less ignition , LED Speedometer, Petal disc brake for better braking efficiency, duel emit exhaust, tubeless tyres, duel disc brake, answer back function.

2016 has been the year of sports bike in Bangladesh; we have seen the introduction of some very exclusive performance bikes by some importers in Bangladesh. Most of those models came from Indonesia or Thailand hence the local distributor of Honda & Yamaha couldn’t bring them as they are mostly depended on Indian motorcycle lineup.

Suzuki launched GSX-R & GSX-S150 in Indonesia; this is the first real step in the sports bike segments to fight with the likes of Yamaha R15 V2 & Honda CBR150R. Not to mention the naked bike will fight with the likes of Honda CB150R Streetfire & Yamaha M Slaz.

I honestly won’t be surprise if any importer brings these two bikes in Bangladesh this year before the distributor of Suzuki in Bangladesh does. Currently we didn’t get any official confirmation of when it will launch in India. Problems of buying bikes through importers are many:

  • You won’t get any warranty.
  • No after sales service.
  • No spare parts backup.

Even though the bikers of Bangladesh want to buy these exclusive bikes because:

  • We are bounded by 155cc engine limit and these are the most powerful bikes we will get to ride currently
  • Most of us age between 20-35 years want to ride performance 150cc sports bikes in Bangladesh but sadly we don’t have too many options to choose from.
