TVS is a notorious motorcycle manufacturer. They are popular in making Frankensteins. One of which is the TVS Rockz 125. The TVS Rockz is what you would call a hybrid between a conventional bike and a scooter. We stopped seeing scooters with gears long back, but TVS went ahead and made another one. This one however has a gear shifting foot lever, rather than a clutch associated gear shifting arm lever (seen on classic scooters). Some would also call this a moped (clear misconception).
TVS is one of the biggest motorcycle manufacturers in the world. It is also a manufacturer of the BMW G310R. You ought to be a big fish if the Germans came to you for teaming up. TVS motorcycles are quite popular in Bangladesh. The TVS Apache series is one of the top contenders in the naked sports/sports commuter segments. And let’s not mention the beast, TVS Apache RTR 160 4V.
The TVS Rockz 125 is a very sporty and nimble commuting scooter. The scooter comes with very simple characteristics. Or does it? This is the only scooter in Bangladesh that seems to have winglets, or at least winglet look alikes. The design from a distance will seem simple, but when you get closer, you will see that this has a very sporty look.
The TVS Rockz 125 has a very basic instrument cluster. The instrument cluster has a speedometer which is analog. It also has a fuel gauge and a trip and odometer. A few more information would have been good for the bike. An RPM counter would have been great for beginners. A clock would have done a lot for the bike as well. It also has a gear position indicator.
The TVS Rockz 125 comes with a charging port and MP3/FM radio player as well. These may seem like gimmicks, but a charging port is very important as it helps many people get out of sticky situations. The MP3/FM player comes with a headphone jack, which is great as it allows you to stay refreshed in traffic.
The TVS Rockz 125 comes in four different colors. They are:
All the colors have similar decals (graphics). As previously mentioned, the bike looks very sporty.
As previously mentioned, the TVS Rockz 125 comes with a nimble body, which is intended to squeeze through the hectic city traffic. The weight of the scooter is around 107kg, which is very light. This scooter comes with a fuel capacity of around 5liters, so basically you have to top up your fuel tank now and then.
The length, width, and height of the TVS Rockz 125 are 1940mm, 665mm, and 1160mm. It also has a low saddle-height of about 767mm; at this seat height, anyone above the height of 5’2” can easily ride it. The scooter also has an average ground clearance of 160mm, which is enough for Bangladeshi speedbumps. The wheelbase is only of 1260mm, which is quite less and might make it unstable at high-speed cornering.
Engine and Transmission:
The TVS Rockz 125 comes with a single-cylinder, 4-stroke, SOHC, and 125cc engine. The engine is air-cooled. The scooter comes with only an electrical self-start mechanism and also a kick-start. The engine provides 10.5BHP of power and 10Nm of torque. The scooter is expected to have a good fuel efficiency of about 40-45kmpl.
The TVS Rockz 125 comes with a fully automatic transmission system. The bike has a 4-speed gearbox. The scooter is expected to reach a top speed of around 100kmph.
Brakes, Suspensions, and Wheels:
The TVS Rockz 125 comes with a disc-drum setup. The front wheel has a single disc, which increases the braking efficiency significantly. It comes with a drum brake at the rear wheel, which is quite common when it comes to scooters. If it had a rear disc as well, the braking of the scooter would have been at the top among the scooters of this section.
The TVS Rockz 125 has regular telescopic forks, and a spring-loaded dual shock absorber at the front, and rear respectively. The front telescopic fork suspension is expected to have a decent response like most telescopic suspensions have. But since it is a scooter, the travel of the telescopic forks may not be as good as a motorcycle, and hence may the scooter might be vulnerable to potholes in the city. The rear spring-loaded “hydraulic” suspension may provide an adequate response in the city, but you shouldn’t get your hopes high.
The TVS Rockz 125 also comes with alloy wheels and tubeless tires. The tire setup is a bit thin, which is common for commuting scooters. The tires are expected to give an adequate performance on the city roads.
The TVS Rockz 125 is a very forgiving commuting scooter/bike. It is not very overwhelming for beginners. This scooter is intended for beginners and intermediate riders to ride around the urban jungle. The TVS Rockz 125 will also attract many youths of Bangladesh, due to its design and features and the fact that it is very much unisex.
The TVS Rockz 125 has competitions in both 100cc and 110cc segments. Here only scooters are mentioned, mopeds are not taken into account.
Bajaj Discover 125.
Vespa Notte 125.
Znen Aurora 125.
Haojue Lindy 125.
The TVS Rockz 125 is a well-built and well-designed commuting scooter, which can also be called a bike. It has more pros than cons. It is also a very suitable scooter/bike for beginners to learn on. The TVS Rockz 125 ticks most of the boxes for most people looking for a good and simple scooter/bike.
