Review of TVS Metro (100 CC): 

Overview: The TVS Auto has been known for their RTR series. But this time they wanted to give their customer a very fuel efficient yet very stylish TVS Metro in the 100 CC commuter segment with decent performance too. So without further ado, let’s jump in.

Engine: The New TVS Metro is powered by an all-new 100 CC single cylinder, 4 strokes, air cooled spark ignition DuraLife engine. This engine is made to taking the beating that a hardcore all day long city commuting has to offer. The cylinder has 51 mm bore and 48.8 mm stroke resulting 99.7 CC of piston displacement.

The compression ratio used is 9.3 : 1 which is ensures the longevity of the piston hence engine considering the available gasoline quality in Bangladesh.

The engine is feed through a Keihin or Spaco AW 17 Carburetor with a 12 Liter fuel tank and 2 Liters of reserve capacity. The engine is equipped with double polyurethane foam filter element as air filter for its clear breathing which will also increase the longevity of the engine.

The engine has a positive lubrication system for it lubrication. The positive lubrication basically delivers lube-oil from a pressurized reservoir with built-in solenoid valve that delivers predictable quantity of oil to the spinning bearings through a system of stainless steel tubes (According to NASA Technical Report) (Source).

This positive lubrication should result in smooth transmission of power without much power loss for friction on the bearings, cylinder wall and valve ports.  And all these gismo results in 7.47 PS of peak power at 7500 RPM and 7.5 NM of maximum torque at 5000 RPM.

This might looks not so impressive but when this it hooks on to vehicle kerb weighted 108 KG it becomes very impressive. This bike has a power to weight ratio of 31 HP for per 1000 KG.  The Metro Plus has both Electric starter and kick starter.

Transmission: The TVS Metro Plus is mated with a 5 speed gear box having the ratio of 3.273, 1.765, 1.238 and 0.958 respectively on 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear. This transmission uses a wet multi plate type clutch. The gear shifts are all up pattern. The bike is equipped with a heel and toe shifter so you don’t have to worry about you shoe’s. The final drive is chain and sprockets.

Design: TVS has made the Metro 100 as sporty as possible without adding any unnecessary weight to it. The head turning snazzy graphics is the first in the economy class.

This graphics would definitely make a premium bike rider take look. The contoured U shape tinted visor over the sporty head lamp looks very attractive.

The turn signals are now clear lens as the premium bikes. The black finished alloy wheels looks sporty. The engine is also finished black along with the exhaust and chrome finished heat shield over it gives it a premium feel. The fuel tank and the well cushioned, long seat blend together beautifully.

The body panel below the seat goes sharply to the back to house the sporty tail lamp. The aluminium grab rail looks very sporty and serves its purpose well. The ground clearance looks decent for any road condition. The Metro is available in RED, BLACK, GREEN, ORANGE and WHITE colors.

Instrument console:  The TVS Metro Plus has a two part all analogue units as instrument console. The consoles consist of speedometer, odometer on the left side and a fuel gauge on the. There is a power and an economy indicator to help the rider to maximize mileage.

Switch Gears:  The TVS Metro Plus has standard switches with high beam flasher. The bike is equipped with any gear self-start.  This feature definitely helps in traffic and saves fuel as well. There is no engine kill switch.

Electricals: The TVS Metro Plus uses a 12 V, 5 Ah battery and an AC generator. The bike uses a DC-Digital Ignition System. The Bike has bright 35/35 W Multi reflector clear lens AC head lamp, 5/21 W tail/ Brake light and each 10 W clear lens turn signal light.

Chassis & Dimensions:  TVS used a Single cradle tubular frame for the foundation of the bike, which should be enough for a 100 CC bike. The TVS Metro Plus has overall length of 1990 mm, width of 705 mm, height of 1080 mm, ground clearance of 172 mm and wheel base of 1260 mm.

The kerb weight of the bike is 108 kg. The steering and Caster angle is 88° & 25.1◦ respectively. These mean that the bike has an average footprint in terms of dimensions.

Suspension:  The TVS Metro Sport Plus is equipped with Telescopic forks at the front and 5 step adjustable hydraulic shocks at the rear which are attached with rectangular swing arm. This suspension setup should be enough for soaking up all the bumps of all kind roads with even a pillion in the back.

Brakes & Tires: The TVS Metro Plus uses a 130 mm drum at the front and a 110 mm drum at the rear. No disk brake is offered. The bike is equipped with a 2.75 X 17 -4 ply rating tire at the front and 3.00 X 17 -6 ply rating tire at the rear.

Performance: The TVS Metro can achieve top speed of around 80 Kmph. The fuel efficiency is there. TVS claims that the bike can go maximum 95 km per liter gasoline that is petrol or octane under standard test condition.

Comfort and Handling: The TVS Metro being a commuter bike, the first thing TVS had to consider while designing is comfort. The bike has to comfortable and the Metro has passed this part with flying colors. The all day long, wide, well cushioned seat offers great comfort and space for both rider and pillion. The seating position is upright, so no back pain. The handle grips are made soft so it should feel premium.

The handling of the bike should be easy as a result of light weight and wide steering angle. The turning radius of the bike is claimed 2250 mm. The tires Button type Hi-grip TVS tires should give higher grip and comfort at the same time.

Conclusion: The bike is stylish, comfortable and strong at the same time in its segment. Though its not blazingly fast it zoom the ride out of the traffic in no time that’s for sure. It can be a great 100 CC daily driver. If one is looking for a fuel efficient, light weight bike. This bike is recommended.
