Review of TVS Metro Plus (110 CC):
Overview: The TVS Metro series is always been known for their fuel efficiency or mileage, reliability and performance in its segment of 100 CC city commuters.
They have been proving themselves ever since their first launch. TVS Auto Bangladesh Limited Launch a new addition to their Metro series, the TVS Metro Plus on February 15th, 2015.
The new TVS Metro Plus has got some upgrades over the TVS Metro ES. This Metro plus has a 110 CC engine that is capable of producing 8.4 PS of power and 8.7 NM of maximum torque, also some very important and new features with some major refinement over its elder brother the Metro ES.
Engine: The New TVS Metro Plus is powered by an all-new 110 CC single cylinder, 4 strokes, air cooled spark ignition Eco-Thrust engine.
This new unit is derived from the TVS Phoenix’s Eco-Thrust engine which is known for its smooth performance. Unlike the Phoenix, this engine also adjusts petrol flow to the cylinder based on the throttle position. This technology gives the best combination of power and mileage.
The cylinder has 53.5 mm bore and 48.8 mm stroke resulting 109.7 CC of piston displacement. The compression ratio used is 9.2 : 1 which is ensures the longevity of the piston hence engine considering the available gasoline quality in Bangladesh.
The engine is feed through a Keihin AV1 Carburetor with a 10 Liter fuel tank and 2 Liters of reserve capacity. The engine is equipped with paper filter element as air filter for its breathing.
The engine has a positive lubrication system for it lubrication. The positive lubrication basically delivers lube-oil from a pressurized reservoir with built-in solenoid valve that delivers predictable quantity of oil to the spinning bearings through a system of stainless steel tubes (According to NASA Technical Report).
This positive lubrication should result in smooth transmission of power without much power loss for friction on the bearings and valve ports.
And, all these gismo results in 8.4 PS of peak power at 7500 RPM and 8.7 NM of maximum torque at 5000 RPM. This might looks not so impressive but when this it hooks on to vehicle kerb weighted 109 KG it becomes very impressive.
This bike has a power to weight ratio of 34 HP for per 1000 KG. The Metro Plus has both Electric starter and kick starter.
Transmission: The TVS Metro Plus is mated with a 5 speed gear box having the ratio of 3.273, 1.765, 1.238, 0.958 and 0.880 respectively on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th gear.
This transmission uses a wet multi plate type clutch. The gear shifts are all up pattern. The bike is equipped with a heel and toe shifter so you don’t have to worry about you shoe’s. The final drive is chain and sprockets.
Design: The design factor of the TVS Metro Plus is very attractive too. The nicely scalped muscular streamline shaped fuel tank that gives the head turning factor and at the same time lowers the co-efficient of friction which help the bike to slice through air resistance.
The bike has some new two tone graphics designed especially for it. Side panels have stylish honeycomb textured black grills on them which increase the style quotient of the bike.
The rear side panels looks muscular and beautifully laid out with the body design. The rectangular shaped headlamp in the front, a tinted visor on top, the body colored front cowl has body graphics.
The padded dual tone seat has some texture on it and also made from superior materials, which look enhances the style of the bike dramatically.
In the lower part of the bike is all matte black finished except for in the blue version the exhaust silencer’s heat shield is chrome finished. The bike has a premium Eco-thrust branding on the heat shield of the silencer pipe.
The rear suspension has gray finish on it. The tail lamp has some reflective curvatures that help to glow more and increase visibility which enhance the safety. The bike comes with only two color choices in Bangladesh i.e. Red and Blue.
Instrument console: The TVS Metro Plus has analogue-digital unit as instrument console. The analogue part is only the speedometer while the digital unit has an odometer and fuel gauge which is very precise in terms of information.
The instrument console has a service reminder to remind the rider that the bike needs servicing. There is a power and an economy indicator to help the rider to maximize mileage.
Switch Gears: The TVS Metro Plus has standard switches with high beam flasher. The bike is equipped with any gear self-start. This feature definitely helps in traffic and saves fuel as well. There is no engine kill switch.
Electricals: The TVS Metro Plus uses a 12 V, 5 Ah battery and an AC generator. The bike uses a DC-Digital Ignition System. The Bike has bright 35/35 W Multi reflector clear lens AC head lamp, 5/21 W tail/ Brake light and each 10 W clear lens turn signal light.
Chassis & Dimensions: TVS used a Single cradle tubular frame for the foundation of the bike, which should be enough for a 110 CC bike. The TVS Metro Plus has overall length of 1980 mm, width of 750 mm, height of 1105 mm, seat height of 1080 mm, and ground clearance of 172 mm, wheel base of 1260 mm. The kerb weight (with tool kit & 90% of fuel) of the bike is 109 kg. The steering and Caster angle is 84° & 25.6◦. These mean that the bike has an average footprint in terms of dimensions.
Suspension: The TVS Metro Sport Plus is equipped with Telescopic forks at the front and 5 step adjustable hydraulic shocks at the rear which are attached with rectangular swing arm. This suspension setup should be enough for soaking up all the bumps of all kind roads with even a pillion in the back.
Brakes & Tires: The TVS Metro Plus uses a 130 mm drum at the front and a 110 mm drum at the rear. No disk brake is offered. The tires sizes are 2.75 X 17 at the front and 3.00 X 17 at the rear.
Performance: The TVS Metro Plus can go 0-60 KmpH at just 7 seconds and can achieve a top speed of around 90 KmpH. The fuel efficiency is there. The bike can go a maximum of 86 km per liter gasoline that is petrol or octane under standard test condition.
Comfort and Handling: The TVS Metro Plus being a commuter bike, the first thing TVS had to consider while designing is a comfort. The bike has to comfortable and Metro Plus has passed this part with flying colors.
The long, wide, well-cushioned seat offers great comfort and space for both rider and pillion. The seating position is upright, so no back pain. The handle grips are made soft so it should feel premium.
The handling of the bike should be easy as a result of lightweight and a wide steering angle. The turning radius of the bike is claimed 2250 mm. The tires Button type Hi-grip TVS tires should give a higher grip and comfort at the same time.
Conclusion: The bike is stylish, comfortable, strong and fast at the same time in its segment. It can be a great 110 CC daily driver. If one is looking for a fuel-efficient, lightweight bike. This bike is recommended.
