Dual sport motorcycles are nonexistent in Bangladesh, as most consumers look for commuting or sportbikes. This has caused a problem for trail lovers, as the options for Dual sport bikes are quite limited. However, times are changing and more people are opting for dual-sport motorcycles. This sudden change in dynamics is causing a lot of companies to innovate. TVS has turned their all-time favorite commuter bike, the TVS Max 125, into a 125cc dual-sport bike, the TVS Max Semi Trail.
TVS is an Indian motorcycle giant. TVS is mostly known for its famous naked sportbike series, the TVS Apache RTR, which was later also extended into the fully-faired sportbike series, the TVS Apache RR. TVS launched their dual-sport bike the TVS Max Semi Trail. The bike has received quite some recognition after it’s released, as the bike looks like a commuter, while it has the abilities of a dual-sport bike.
The TVS Max Semi Trail is a dual-sport bike, and it even looks the part. The bike has dual-sport tires, elevated mudguards, and a luggage rack. The bike however has the same ergonomics as the TVS Max 125. The bike practically looks like a modified TVS Max 125. But the TVS Max Semi Trail also has better decals, which make it look like a monster.
The TVS Max Semi Trail comes in four colors internationally. They are:
All the versions of the bike come with similar decals, except for the white version, which comes with special decals.
The TVS Max Semi Trail comes with a fully analog instrument cluster. The instrument cluster has been kept simple to avoid confusion when off-roading. The instrument cluster only includes a speedometer, an odometer, and a fuel gauge. An adequate amount of information has been given to the bike.
The TVS Max Semi Trail comes has a single seat. The bike has a high seat, as all dual-sport bikes should have. The bike also gets high ground clearance, as all dual-sport bikes should get. The bike has a fuel capacity of 14.5liters, which is quite odd for dual-sport bikes, as most dual-sport bikes hardly get 10liters of capacity. This fuel capacity allows the bike to be anything it wants.
The length, width, and height of the TVS Max Semi Trail are 2000mm, 1070mm, and 770mm respectively. Although there is not a proper indication of the weight of the bike, it can be assumed that the bike will be quite light-weight and fun to ride. The bike has a wheelbase of 1265mm, which is not much and will not be the best for leaning during corners but is enough to land smoothly after jumping.
Engine and Transmission:
The TVS Max Semi Trail comes with a 4-stroke, single-cylinder, and 124.53cc engine. The engine is carbureted and air-cooled. The engine pumps out 10.86BHP of power and 10.8Nm of torque. The power and torque figure does seem quite low, but they are adequate to trail through jungles. The bike is expected to have a good fuel economy, but if you are doing a lot of off-roading, then the fuel economy should not be your main concern.
The TVS Max Semi Trail has a basic wet multi-plate clutch. The bike has a 5-speed gearbox to make off-roading more fun and easier. The top speed of the bike is expected to be around 110kmph.
Brakes, Suspensions, and Wheels:
The TVS Max Semi Trail has a disc-drum brake setup. The front brake is a disc brake and the rear is a drum brake. The bike does not get ABS or CBS, which is fine, as during off-roading the bike will require individual brakes to work separately. However, the rear brake would have been much better if it were a disc brake.
The TVS Max Semi Trail comes with special suspensions that will take into account the sudden jerks during landing or the trail roads. The front of the bike gets telescopic forks and the rear gets twin spring-loaded suspensions. The rear may not have the best feel as it is spring-loaded and does not have a mono-shock. It is a complete shock that it does not have a mono-shock.
The TVS Max Semi Trail has spoked wheels. Spoked wheels are best for off-roading, as they can be easily repaired. The bike has a 70/90 section wheel at the front and a 90/100 section wheel at the rear. Thin wheels may seem very weird to street Rossis, but thinner wheels are very desirable during off-roading.
The TVS Max Semi Trail is made for the adventure lovers. It was made for the people who enjoy riding through the woods and trails. The bike is perfect for the people who will use the bike to commute and will go off-road every weekend. This might also be a great secondary bike for people who wishes to have a bike only for trail-riding during the weekends.
The TVS Max Semi Trail has very few competitors, as this segment is not as popular in Bangladesh.
Yamaha XTZ 125.
Kawasaki KSR Pro.
Lifan X-Pect 150.
The TVS Max Semi Trail is the second 125cc dual-sport bike available in Bangladesh. The bike is commendable and has good potential if used properly.
