Café Racers such as the Speeder Countryman are slowly gaining popularity in Bangladesh. In recent years people are becoming more and more accustomed to classic bikes and classic designs. People are opting to modify their bikes to look like café racers. But the Bangladeshi modification law has limited this particular passion. However, companies such as Speeder and Lifan are trying their best to bring café racers as stock bikes just so that the general public can fulfill their dreams of riding café racers.
Speeder first started its operations in Bangladesh back in 2004. It was going strong till 2009. After that they removed themselves from the Bangladeshi market. Later in 2017, they again started their operations in Bangladesh and so far, they are doing good.
The Speeder Countryman comes with a lot of retro features. One of the most common features is the circular headlight. The headlight is halogen, while the taillight is LED. The indicators are bulb lights. The lights are not the best for long rides out of town, but good enough for the city commute.
The Speeder Countryman comes with clip on handlebars and think seats. The handlebars are that of typical café racers, which is something most retro bikes miss. The bike comes with a thin leather looking seat, which make it look much refreshing and beautiful. The tank is also designed retro, which makes it look unique.
The Speeder Countryman comes in three colors.
The decals of all the bikes are very similar.
The Speeder Countryman comes with a very simple and elegant, yet informative instrument cluster. The instrument cluster contains a gear position indicator, RPM counter, speedometer, and other necessary indicators. This is refreshing because most café racers don’t get modern technology, just half-baked ideas. Hence it was much needed.
The Speeder Countryman is a short motorcycle. It has a low saddle of 780mm, with a generous ground clearance of 200mm. This ground clearance is more than enough for the city commute. It also has a 11liters of fuel capacity, which is a large tank, which is enough for the long rides out of town. This will assist the fuel efficiency in making it a much suitable ride for longer roads.
The Speeder Countryman has a small body compared to other bikes. The height, length, width, and weight of the Speeder Countryman are 1010mm, 2060mm, 750mm, and 130kg respectively. The bike is one of the lightest bikes presently of the 165cc segments in the country. This bike has a wheelbase of about 1340mm, which is enough for cornering stability.
Engine and Transmission:
The Speeder Countryman has a single-cylinder, 4-stroke, and 163.7cc engine. The engine is carbureted and oil-cooled, which is expected at this price range. The engine pumps out around 12kW at 8000rpm and 17Nm of torque. The power is quite adequate compared to other bikes of this range. It has a possible mileage of around 30-35kmpl on average.
The Speeder Countryman also has a basic wet multi-plate clutch system. There are 6 gears for the transmission, which is great for the top speed and power delivery of the bike. The bike’s top speed is expected to be around 120kmph.
Brakes, Suspensions, and Wheels:
The Speeder Countryman comes with a triple-disc combination of brakes. The front wheel has two disc brakes, which is unlike most bikes in Bangladesh. It consequently increases the braking performance of the bike by miles. The bike also has a disc brake at the rear, which is great for increasing the braking performance of the bike.
The Speeder Countryman comes with a telescopic USD fork set up at the front and a telescopic spring-loaded setup at the rear. The front USD telescopic forks are expected to respond well on good roads and cornering will also be fun. The rear dual spring-loaded setup may not be the friendliest setup to have on the bike, as they tend to be a bit too soft and dance around too much on bumpy roads.
The Speeder Countryman has spoked metal wheels, which perfectly matches the aesthetics of the bike. It has 4.0-17 and a 4.5-17 tire setup. The tire setup is adequate and acceptable. The tires are quite unique of this bike. They are not the best for off-roading, as most café racers are not. They are however, good for the city roads.
Pros and Cons:
The pros and cons of the Speeder Countryman are discussed below.
Complete Café Racer design.
Nimble and compact.
No windshield, hence prone to wind blast.
The Speeder Countryman is targeted towards café racer lovers. This bike will satisfy the people who are looking for a good-looking café racer bike but also regularly commutes. This bike may be a bit overwhelming for beginners, as it is very powerful. This bike is also great for people who want a powerful bike but are on a budget.
There are only two café racers commercially available in Bangladesh. The Speeder Countryman and the Victor R Café Racer 125. Both café racers are of different segments, hence it can be said that the Speeder Countryman has no competitor.
On average, the Speeder Countryman is a good-looking, nimble, and simple café racer bike. This is a bike that is the response to many Bangladeshi consumer’s needs. A complete café racer is something that the Bangladeshis love and will appreciate greatly. The Speeder Countryman can be the bike that every Bangladeshi café racer lover is looking for.
