For a Bangladeshi biker, the naked sports section of bikes is fairly common. There are more bikes in this section than we can even count. But there is one unique bike that we all appreciate and admire. That bike is the Roadmaster Rapido 150. There are countless reasons for this bike to be admired, but the most notable reason is the fact that this is a Bangladeshi-made bike, by a Bangladeshi company called Roadmaster. And here we will try to dissect and give you a theoretical review of the bike.
The Roadmaster Rapido 150 was initially introduced to the public as a demo in 2017 at the Dhaka International Trade Fair 2017. It was released later that year in September. It was considered a hot release during Eid-Ul-Adha, as it was nearly sold out by January. It was one of the most talked-about bikes in 2017. It took the biking community by storm with its premium features and low price.
This Roadmaster Rapido 150 comes fitted with Combined Braking System (CBS). CBS is a system where pressing on the rear brake pedal activates both the rear and front brakes simultaneously. This is a safety feature that is was designed to avoid the slipping or skidding of either of the wheels during any emergency braking situation.
The Roadmaster Rapido 150 comes with Day Time Running lights (DRL lights). These lights make this bike unique and noticeable at any time of the day. And being noticeable makes it safer for the rider, as this way any car/truck driver won’t be able to unintentionally ignore the bike.
The body of the bike looks like a muscular alien if you look at it from the front. This is mostly because of the large cowls in front of the tank and also the DRL lights. If you look at it from the side, you will be astonished at how good-looking this bike is. The Roadmaster Rapido 150 most definitely deserves a spot on the “Most good-looking bikes in Bangladesh” shelf, as this bike easily trumps most naked sportbikes available in the country.
The Roadmaster Rapido 150 comes in three color variants:
Although these colors may be common in Bangladesh, the other bikes don’t wear them as well as the Roadmaster Rapido 150.
The Roadmaster Rapido 150 is a naked sportbike. It is equipped with a standard single-piece rod handlebar. This makes the seating position of the bike fairly upright and comfortable. The bike is quite tall for the average rider, as it has a 170 mm ground clearance and a height of 1290 mm. It has a wheelbase of 1330 mm, which makes it quite suitable for low-speed maneuvers and gives it a good balance.
It has a width and length of 830 mm and a length of 2050 mm. It weighs 138 kg, which is a bit heavier than most commuter and naked sports motorcycles, but it also ensures better handling at high speed.
Engine and Transmission
The Roadmaster Rapido 150 has a 150cc 4-stroke single cylinder carburetor engine, made by Zong Shen (a Chinese Motorcycle manufacturing company), with dual valves which are air-cooled like most bikes of this segment. The engine produces 13.6 bhp of power at 8500rpm and 12.2 Nm of torque at 6000rpm. That proves that this is a strong bike capable of tackling most of its competitors. It only comes with a self-start button with no kick-start.
It comes with a manual 5-speed gearbox with a multi-disc wet clutch. The Bike BD test ride of the Roadmaster Rapido 150 has shown that the bike provides a linear power delivery during the 0-85kmph range, after which the bike starts to struggle to provide power to the wheels. The bike clocked at 115kmph in our test ride. Also, during the 2000 km test ride, it has shown that the gear shifter is rather stiff.
Suspension, Brakes, and Wheels
The Roadmaster Rapido 150 comes with a regular telescopic suspension for the front and a mono shock-absorbing suspension on the rear. The Bike BD test ride has revealed that rear suspension is not the best of its lot, as it fails to perform adequately in the presence of a pillion or on a bumpy road. But the front suspension has shown good performance during rigorous testing.
As mentioned earlier, the Roadmaster Rapido 150 comes with CBS. This system ensures that the bike performs proper brakes and high stability during sudden brakes or emergencies. The bike comes with a 240 mm disc up front and a 220 mm disc at the back. The big disc brakes ensure stronger and responsive brakes. The brakes have performed significantly well on wet roads as well.
The Roadmaster Rapido 150 has 110/60 tires at the front and 130/60 tires at the back. It is fitted with 17 inches alloy wheels. The bike has shown a good response to low speed and moderate speed cornering and turning, although at high speed most riders will lose a bit of confidence during cornering and turning. The tires have a good grip and have performed fairly okay on muddy roads, good on wet roads, and very well on dry roads.
When a bike is produced, the manufacturer keeps a certain set of people in mind before designing or executing the bike. In this case, the bike was produced for the youth culture of Bangladesh. This bike will mostly attract people who are a bit tall, young, and wishes to have a bike that gives out good performance, looks good and does not put a hole in the pocket.
The competitors of the Roadmaster Rapido 150 are a bit tough to choose, as this is a naked sportbike that comes at the price of a regular commuter bike. Yet, we have a shortlist of the bikes that can give it a run for its money.
