Aprilia FX 125
Market status: Available in Bangladesh
Commuter bikes have been taken for granted over the years. Indian and Japanese giants have slowly given up on the designs of the bikes. The 125cc segment of commuter bikes has become monotonous and designs have become more and more boring over the years. But not to fear, Aprilia is here. Aprilia has brought the Aprilia FX 125 which looks nothing less than a beast. The bike has been designed exactly like the 150cc Aprilia FX 125.
Aprilia is an Italian motorcycle manufacturing company that started its journey by making bicycles. They went on to make scooters, low capacity motorcycles, and finally higher capacity motorcycles such as the 1000cc RSV Mille, and RSV4. Aprilia is brought to Bangladeshi consumers by Runner Automobiles Limited. Runner Automobiles brought the Aprilia FX 125 to Bangladeshis and received a handful of praise.
The Aprilia FX 125 is a commuter bike that comes stock with an engine cowl, air scoops, and an extended windshield. The engine cowl is a very useful feature for the monsoon season. The air scoops allow the air to flow more air to the engine to keep it cool, while the extended windshield makes the windblast to go above the riders rather than directly hitting the rider’s chest. The FX 125 also has an elevated pillion seat which adds to the sporty look of the bike.
There are three colors of the Aprilia FX 125. They are:
The Black and Red version comes with similar decals. The White version of the bike is a bit special, as it comes with special decals.
The Aprilia FX 125 comes with a semi-digital instrument cluster. The instrument cluster comes with a speedometer, an odometer, a trip meter, a gear position indicator, a fuel gauge, and other necessary indicators. The bike has all the indicators a beginner and a veteran rider needs to commute comfortably around the city.
The Aprilia FX 125 comes with a very nimble body. The seat height of the bike is kept low to allow riders of 5’3” to seat easily. The bike also has an average ground clearance of around 165mm, which is good enough but it might hit some of the tall speed bumps. The bike also has a huge fuel capacity of 18liters, which is good for long rides or long tours.
The length, width, and height of the Aprilia FX 125 are 2035mm, 785mm, and 1075mm respectively. The bike has a handlebar that is upright to make it comfortable and easy to commute on. The bike is expected to be quite lightweight as all lower capacity commuters are. The bike has a fairly long wheelbase of 1375mm, which allows the bike to be quite stable at corners. The tank of the bike is quite thin which allows the legs to grip on to the tank.
Engine and Transmission:
The Aprilia FX 125 comes with a single-cylinder, 4-stroke, and 125cc air-cooled engine. There are both self and kick-start on the bike. The engine pumps out a maximum of 9.66BHP of power at 7500rpm and 12.3Nm of torque at 7500rpm. The low torque and power kicking in quite late in this bike make it rather fuel-efficient. Although it is a carburetor engine, it is expected to have a fuel economy of 45kmpl.
The Aprilia FX 125 comes with a basic wet, multi-plate clutch. The bike also has a 5-speed gearbox, which has a linear power delivery to the engine. The bike is expected to have a top speed of around 100kmph.
Brakes, Suspensions, and Wheels:
The Aprilia FX 125 comes with a disc-drum setup. The front has a disc, while the rear has a drum. The front brakes work well, as it is a 240mm disc. The rear has a 130mm drum brake which is okay and is expected to perform as a basic drum. The brake setup is perfect for this bike, as it sports a low amount of power and torque which can be easily tackled by a single disc. Although a disc at the rear would have done tremendously well on this bike.
The Aprilia FX 125 comes with telescopic forks at the front as suspension. The front suspension works well on bumpy roads. The rear suspensions are two hydraulic spring-loaded shock absorbers. The rear suspension provides good comfort to the pillion and will also be able to absorb most of the bumps during the city commute.
The Aprilia FX 125 comes with alloy wheels. The front and rear wheels have 90/90 and 110/80 section tires. The tires are good enough for this bike, however, emergency braking may cause the rear wheel of the bike to skid. Thus a 120/80 section tire would have served this bike well.
The Aprilia FX 125 was made for beginners and commuters. This means people who are just learning the ropes of a motorcycle can choose this bike, as this has all the necessary functionalities that a new rider needs to learn. This bike is also not very overwhelming for the riders. This bike is also good for the daily commuter who is on a budget but wants a good bike. The comfortable ergonomics will attract a lot of commuters.
